Thinking About the Oscars

“Avatar” is two things: a brilliant piece of computer cinema and a story for today’s times.  Don’t miss the understanding and the implications of this story.  Congrats, Mr. Cameron, who was seen at the Santa Barbara Film Festival accepting his award from California “Governator” Schwarzenager…

There are several small films in contention for Oscar this year.  One of the 10 nominees is a real favorite of mine. “An Education” is one of those films that you have to watch for the first five minutes and then you’re hooked.  Carey Mulligan, our heroine has been nominated for a Best Actress Award in a Leading Role and she deserves every accolade the critics have given her.

So many outstanding performances in every category, it’s hard to pick only five nominations. But glad the Academy did not ignore in the Supporting Actor category,  Christoph Waltz in Quentin Tarantino’s “Inglorious Basterds.” I loved his Col. Hans Landa.  Though he received no Best Actor nomination, good looking men who can act, sometimes are often overlooked for the outstanding performances they give in most films. The talent is so often overlooked by their looks.  Brad Pitt, an Oscar will be yours someday.

Until my next Blog…Keep thinking the good thoughts and remember there is a senior out there who needs help, but doesn’t have the affordability to get it.  Please help those people you know who may be in this situation with both your time and your dollars.  We at the Rona Barrett Foundation for Seniors In Need thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Avatar was amazing. I’ve seen it 3 times and it will change how we think/as see movies forever. The social and environmental messages were not lost on me which makes me thankful so many people around the world have seen the film
