Never Met a Finer Gentleman than John Forsythe
He was not only a long time friend, but my neighbor. And one darn good actor with a great sense of humor, who also loved to flirt. Alfred Hitchcock adored him and always used him in his films when the part was right for John. He was a lover of horses and you could often see him at the Santa Anita racetrack watching one of his beloved “babies” race along the track.
I saw him just a few weeks ago at his home and his humor was as good as it has ever been. I was in Los Angeles, the other day when he passed, but didn’t know it till I returned home late Friday evening. His wife, Nicole, told me he was eating ice cream and 11 PM that evening and his heart just stopped. What a way to go!
He was truly a gentleman and a wonderful father to his three grown children. After his wife Julie died rather suddenly, and it appeared John didn’t have the desire to go on he met a former pal at the track and several years later married Nicole Carter, who many believe gave John several more wonderful years of fun and laughter after Julie passed on.
To all the bright stars who have left us in these past few days and weeks, I hope you are having a a kick-ass party and think of us down here once in a while. We are missing you: John, Fess, Bob Culp, Peter Graves. Amen!
