Rona Moving On and Looking Back

Rona Barrett has fond memories of the house Carroll now calls home.

She owned four Palm Springs houses, but the one on Via Las Palmas – “next to Elvis, right around the little cul de sac” — was her first Alexander home.

“It had the potential of being almost anything you wanted it to be,” she said. “It was really a lovely little house.”But she doesn’t recall ever talking with Elvis there.

Now Rona is rehearsing a one-woman show on her life and stories. The play with video clips, titled “Rona Barrett: Nothing But The Truth,” is being produced by former Palm Springs Pavilion Theatre owner Dick Taylor, who recently moved to Los Angeles.

The show will benefit the Rona Barrett Foundation to provide for a Seniors In Need program that she hopes will solve many of the housing needs of seniors on the central California coast. Rona, who lives near Santa Barbara, hopes to build a multimillion-dollar village providing affordable apartments, meals served three times a day, an assisted living facility for seniors on SSI and an elder hostel to house friends and relatives.

She’s hoping someone will donate land for the village and that her foundation will be able to contribute to elderly groups in towns where her show tours for “whatever it is they really need — new beds or people who are putting together new housing.”

Obviously, this play will have to raise a lot of money. It opens June 17 at the Paley Center For Media in Beverly Hills as part of the inaugural  “PaleyFest: Rewind Classic TV Festival.”
