BARRETT TAKES THE STAGE IN MID-OCTOBER
By SYVJ Staff
Rona Barrett’s one-woman show is coming to the Santa Ynez Valley Union High School Theatre at 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Oct. 15-16. “Rona Barrett: Nothing But the Truth” premiered earlier this year in Beverly Hills.
The show features video clips from her unscripted interviews with Hollywood favorites such as John Wayne, Bette Davis, Raquel Welch and many more. Barrett, known for her ability to get sometimes reserved celebrities to speak from their heart, will also chronicle her career as the first woman entertainment news reporter.
How she rose to the top of her profession, the trials and tribulations of being the first woman to headline her own television interview specials, and the obstacles she faced along her way are just some of the subjects she will discuss. All proceeds from the evening will benefit the Rona Barrett Foundation.
The mission of the foundation is to assist seniors in need. “I really feel that, in my generation, while our elderly loved ones died at an earlier age, they died with more personal care and dignity. A longer life and good care should not be mutually exclusive. We need to embrace the fact that we live longer, but make sure that we provide the quality of life that all of us deserve that comes with it,” says Barrett.
The foundation supports the building of “The Golden Inn and Cottages,” a pilot facility planned initially for Santa Barbara County, with the goal of creating a model for other communities across the United States to emulate.
“I believe, [this] is my opportunity to use my ‘voice’ as a recognizable public figure to advocate and speak on behalf of senior issues,” says Barrett.
General admission tickets are $50, and are available from El Rancho Market, Star Drugs Co., The Book Loft, New Frontiers and Nielsen’s Market. For more information or to purchase a ticket by mail, please contact the Rona Barrett Foundation at (805) 688-8887
“I think that I have landed on a way to make my journey to provide the best care possible for our seniors the most beneficial,” says Barrett. She invites you to share a memorable evening and to join her on that journey.
