The Golden Inn & Village is a collaborative development of the Housing Authority of the County of Santa Barbara, Surf Development, Peikert+RRM Design Group Architects, and the Rona Barrett Foundation.
The Housing Authority of the County of Santa Barbara (HACSB) has been working to provide affordable housing in Santa Barbara County for over 70 years. Surf Development Company is the nonprofit affiliate of HACSB. In the face of reduced United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) funding and a rapidly growing need for affordable housing, HACSB has galvanized local resources to bring hundreds of additional units to our communities, but nothing like the Golden Inn & Village.
What is exciting about the Golden Inn & Village concept is that once people are established in their new affordable home, they won’t be dislocated from their communities when their needs change as they age. A once independent senior can simply move from one building to another. They will be in the same neighborhood with a co-located continuity of care – that is a distinguishing factor, and why this concept is unique, not only to Santa Barbara County, but to the state of California. Once settled in, our residents will not have to face as many tough choices as they age. – John Polanskey, Director of Housing for the Housing Authority of the County of Santa Barbara.
